Birdsong Resort to host Junior State Championships
July 25 will see the best young bass fishermen in Tennessee compete for the State B.A.S.S. Federation Nation Championship. This will be the third time since 2006 that Birdsong Resort on beautiful Kentucky Lake has been chosen for this prestigious event. Twenty four youth will compete in two age groups for the two Tennessee State Champions who will represent the State at the Southern Regional in April 2010 at a lake in Georgia to be determined. The tournament will begin at first light and end six hours later. Also, for the first time, the young anglers will be able to weigh in limits of five live bass above the fifteen inch length limit.
Anglers will be paired with one in the fourteen and under and one from the fifteen to eighteen age group. Adult boat captains will pilot the boats and cannot advise their charges in any way. The Haywood County Junior Bass Club and the Reelfoot Junior bass Club will be representing West Tennessee and one club’s total weight will determine the West Tennessee Champion. Haywood has won the last two and Reelfoot the previous year’s titles. Competing will be two State Junior Champions from Haywood, D.J. Frederick and Tanner Plumlee who also won the Southern Junior Regional Title in April at Lake Gaston in North Carolina. Plumlee will be competing in the Junior World Championship at the Harris Chain of Lakes near Orlando, Florida in October. The Haywood Junior B.A.S.S. Club has the distinction of having six Junior State Titles to its credit. Site Manager for B.A.S.S. is Joe Sills -731 443 0343.
